October 7 Stories
Five Friends, One Heartbeat
Five lives woven together by friendship, loyalty and the kind of love that makes the world gentler.
They were five best friends.
Not a coincidence or a passing bond, but a chosen family.
Three soldiers who met in the army, Almog, Noam and Omri, became brothers in spirit. And through them, love grew: Danielle, Noam’s partner of six years, and Shahar, the radiant soul who completed Almog’s heart.
Five lives woven together in joy, loyalty and the kind of love that makes the world gentler.
Noam and Danielle
Noam and Danielle.
Their love was the kind that makes parents whisper, “If only everyone could experience what they had.”
For six years, they built a world of kindness, laughter and quiet strength.
Noam was steady, generous and full of grace. He lived without slogans; his life itself was the message. In every gesture, he gave light.
Danielle was warm and empathetic, with open arms that lifted others. She had a gift for seeing souls and for making everyone around her feel known, valued and safe.
Together, they were proof that love can be pure, humble and extraordinary all at once.
Almog and Shahar
Almog and Shahar.
Two hearts that mirrored one another.
Almog, whose motto was, “Live fully, give freely, love deeply.”
He believed goodness was the greatest force on earth, and he lived it. He tutored children who had no one, helped families in need, volunteered wherever love was missing, and filled every space with laughter and warmth.
Shahar was a soul so radiant that even now, her light refuses to fade.
She lived by principles written not in words but in action: to love deeply, to stand for what is right and to give without measure.
She found beauty everywhere and became beauty itself in the eyes of those who loved her.
Together, Almog and Shahar were the definition of devotion: pure, gentle and unbreakable.
Omri
And Omri.
The friend everyone dreamed of having.
To everyone who loved him, he was home.
A heart wide enough to hold the whole world.
He saw the ones who felt unseen, embraced those who felt lost, and healed others’ pain even while carrying his own.
Omri’s laughter filled the silence. His kindness softened every edge.
He was not a temporary friend. He was a friend for life.
A refuge of truth and compassion, and a reminder that love, in its truest form, expects nothing in return.
October 7
On the morning of October 7, they were together: five friends, one heartbeat, driving towards safety.
In the chaos, their car was ambushed.
There was gunfire, terror and confusion. In the midst of it all, a phone was accidentally answered.
On the other end, the world heard fragments: Almog’s voice, steady even in the impossible, trying to save his friends, calling their names and refusing to give up.
Inside that car, love was still stronger than fear.
Even as darkness closed in, Almog fought until the very end.
He was kidnapped and taken hostage in Gaza. He was later murdered in captivity.
He was the last of the five, and the only one who lived long enough to try to save the rest.
Their light lives on
Five friends.
Five lights were bound together that morning and taken from this world through the events that began on October 7.
Their glow still reaches us.
Because love like theirs does not die.
It lingers in remembered laughter, in lessons of courage, and in the quiet promise they left behind:
- To live fully.
- To give freely.
- To love deeply.
- And to be the good this world still needs.
“Through You I Live On.”
In memory of Danielle Waldman, Noam Shay, Almog Sarusi, Shahar Gindi and Omri Ahrak.
